About Us

OUR MANDATE

COMAC Institute of Petroleum Studies (CIPS) is a dedicated industry training institution established to deliver specialised operational, regulatory, and safety-focused programmes for employees of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs) across all levels of the downstream petroleum value chain. The Institute will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chamber, with a mandate to enhance industry-wide technical capacity, promote regulatory compliance, and uphold professional standards. The establishment of CIPS directly supports COMAC’s strategic objective of enhancing the credibility, competence, and professionalism of its members. It is designed to build capacity in priority areas, including occupational safety and health, product quality assurance, security and risk management, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and emerging developments within the downstream petroleum and energy transition landscape.

Aims and Objectives

The COMAC Institute of Petroleum Studies will;

  • Deliver specialised, downstream-focused training in operations, regulation, safety, and compliance;
  • Provide short, industry-relevant certificate programmes tailored to both operational and managerial personnel;
  • Promote a strong safety culture, professionalism, quality assurance, and HSSEQ standards across the petroleum value chain; and
  • Operate as an accredited training institution, with a formal industry launch targeted for 2026.

Governance

The Institute is governed by a Management Committee of experienced professionals from industry, academia, and regulatory bodies.
